I build hardware that works when it has to — not because the model said so, but because I tested it until I understood how it fails.

That conviction came before engineering. As a military working dog handler and squad leader in the Republic of Korea Army, I fast-roped from helicopters with a 70-pound Labrador after reviewing the test data myself. Reliability meant something different when the stakes were real.

At CMU's Biorobotics Lab, I apply that same standard to robotic systems — co-designing mechanical structures and embedded sensing platforms that expose and withstand real-world uncertainty, from deployable soft-rigid mechanisms to distributed inertial sensing systems validated against independent ground truth.
